BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT – Star Lanes Polaris

Star Lanes Polaris, as the saying goes, “Is not your grandfather’s bowling alley.” Bowling is at the heart of what Director of Sales Erin Tamburrino calls, “Eatertainment,” but Star Lanes Polaris is actually a multi-layered family fun
center.

“We take pride in the fact that we don’t have bowling leagues,” Erin said. “That’s not what Star Lanes Polaris is about. We want families, friends and corporate groups to be able to walk in, rent a lane and have a blast. We’re about offering an experience, whether you’re a family or coming here for a corporate outing or a holiday party. We offer great food, bowling, pool and games. We even have a 3-D, virtual reality ride. We’re about having fun.”

First impressions would indicate that it is not a typical bowling alley. The overhead lighting is dim while the 20 lanes are lit up with rolling lights. Music is playing and there are high-definition screens running sports, shows, and even your company’s logo or a party slideshow over the lanes. The bowling balls are not the traditional
look, but resemble numbered pool balls displaying their weight.

Star Lanes Polaris refers to their boutique set-up as, “Cosmic Bowling.” Gutter guards with rolling lights are used for a new game known as “HyperBowling,” in which scoring can run as high as 3,000 points. “It’s sort of like pinball on the bowling lanes,” Erin said. “Everyone can play and win.”

Along with bowling, there is an arcade room with 50-plus games that can be played for points that can be redeemed at the redemption counter for everything from candy to Ipads. Attached to the amusement room are three separate birthday party rooms that can accommodate up to 16 guests each. The virtual ride, Dark Ride, was installed in 2017. Riders are given 3-D glasses and “blasters” to shoot attacking zombies, pirates and werewolves.

The Point Bar & Grill offers a full service bar and an extensive menu. “We also don’t offer traditional bowling alley food,” Erin said. “We have an executive chef and our menu is very comparable to what you would see in a casual
dining restaurant while our catering menu is even more impressive. Again, we’re catering to families and people who want to come in for a good time. We’re not offering them hot dogs turning on a wheel.”

Star Lanes Polaris also has a VIP room with six additional private bowling lanes, a full bar and seating to accommodate 150 people. It can be rented out for parties and corporate outings. Attached to the VIP room is an 80-seat, audio-visual
equipped conference room. “Sometimes we host corporate meetings in the conference room, then they’ll take a
couple of hours to bowl, eat and play the games,” Erin said. “If you look around, you’ll see that we have a little something for everyone.”

Star Lanes Polaris is located at 8655 Lyra Dr. and is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It is owned by the Mechling family of Westerville. Joe Diggs is the general manager.
