Overnight in the Outskirts

Your weeks are busy with school, work, children, or maybe all of the above! Sometimes just a day or two away is all it takes to return to life with a fresh perspective and better sense of self. Of course, spending half the weekend on the road doesn’t exactly reduce stress. That’s why taking an overnight in Delaware County can be just the retreat you’ve been looking for.

Need inspiration? Here’s a sample itinerary for the perfect Delaware County getaway!

Friday

Pack your overnight bags and take a short drive to Delaware.

Check-in to The House at Seven Oaks, a beautiful bed and breakfast with a rich history that includes being a stopover for the Underground Railroad. Looking for something a little more cosmopolitan? Try Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center, which boasts a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, and an on-site restaurant and pub for that well-deserved nightcap.

Kick off the weekend with a tasty meal at one of many unique area restaurants, such as The Flying Pig Ale House, which features Americana comfort food and 12 Ohio craft beers on tap, or Typhoon Asian Fusion Bistro in Historic Downtown Delaware.

After dinner, take in a movie at the Strand Theatre, attend an event from our busy calendar, or just kick back and chill with your loved one…perhaps with a bottle of wine from The Oak & Brazen Wine Company.

Relax and sleep well for your action-packed Saturday!

Saturday

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your B&B or hotel. Or venture out to The Hamburger Inn Diner, Delaware’s countertop restaurant since 1932. Indulge in the delectable 3-Piece Cinnamon Roll French Toast – you won’t regret it!

Visit the Saturday morning Farmers’ Market in Historic Downtown Delaware. From May through October, Main Street Farmers’ Market offers an enticing array of seasonal fresh produce, baked goods, live and cut flowers and plants, and craft items including homemade soap and pottery. Enjoy a snack, bring some flowers back to your room, and take a souvenir home!

Visit Delaware State Park for a beautiful afternoon in the wilds. Whether you’re into paddle boarding, kayaking, boating, water skiing, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, or disc golf, there is plenty to do in this popular, 1,686-acre recreational area that will take you far away from your weekday worries.

Once you’ve freshened up after your day outdoors, visit The Lazy Chameleon in Powell, your dinner destination for delicious, casual food; sand volleyball; and live music on Friday and Saturday nights!

Sunday

Wake up when you want to, check out of your room, and head over to one of the area’s many coffee shops, such as Coffeeology or Ciao Café. Linger, read, and enjoy conversation before your drive home to a rejuvenated you.
