Cody Coughlin liked to win when he was behind the wheel of a race car.
Now retired as a competitive driver, the member of the famous Coughlin racing family has found a way to win at his own business.
Cody is the founder and CEO of Cafe CBD, a business specializing in the sale of CBD oil-related natural healthcare products, located at 9693 Sawmill Road in Powell.
“I’ve always been interested in natural solutions for healthcare,” Cody said. “I’m a big believer in CBD oil and its ability to aid with a lot of issues naturally. A few years back, my grandfather was having a lot of problems with arthritis. He used CBD oil one time and the next day said he couldn’t believe the difference. That was enough to make me a believer.”
CBD is one of more than 100 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It is extracted from the hemp, but has no THC or is within the three-percent legal limit and is not psychoactive.
Cody opened Café CBD in November 2019 and hired his friend, Patrick Meagher, as manager of retail operations. The store carries more than 300 CBD-related items, ranging from oils to gummies to topical creams.
Cody said CBD has been known to relieve the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. He said it also can be used to treat inflammation, anxiety, stress and insomnia.
“There’s a big difference between the CBD oil you buy in a gas station or a box store and what you can get at the Café CBD,” Cody said. “We carry only high-quality CBD oil products. In fact, we take pride in offering what we believe are the best products available. When you come to our store, someone very knowledgeable about the product will be here to assist you.”
Along with CBD products, Café CBD carries Intricacy wristwatches, which were created by Cody. A portion of the sale of every watch benefits the Child Mind Institute, an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders.
Along with his Powell store, Cody recently opened a second Café CBD at 1481 W. Broad Street in Columbus.
Café CBD is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Cody offers delivery and curbside pickup.
